We all know sugar is bad for our teeth. And for our diet in general if we eat to much. And controlling the intake of sugar is critical for Diabetes sufferers.
So it probably shouldn’t come as much of a surprise that researchers are finding yet another way that sugar is bad for you.
It has been known for a very long time that tumor cells (cancerous and other) use a great deal more glucose than normal body cells. Now researchers at the Huuntsman Cancer Institute have found part of the mechanism for this process, which involves glutamine and have also shown that restricting the supply of glutamine to a tumor cell restricts its growth. Â The process involves another protein called MondoA which blocks a gene called TXNIP when glutamine is present. The research suggests avenues of exploration involving glutamine, MondoA and TXNIP that may provide methods to slow tumor and cancer growth.
